Project overview

Why Suriname.

Gold mining in Suriname is in an early, rapid discovery phase. Miata's two assets sit on the Guiana Shield — the geological twin of West Africa's great gold belts — in a pro-mining jurisdiction, beside producing major mines, on ground mined by hand for a century but barely tested by the drill.

The geology

A West African gold belt, on the other side of the Atlantic.

This age of rock is a major source of gold both in eastern South America and West Africa — the two were joined before the Atlantic opened. The Guiana Shield and its West African counterpart host many gold mines, typically shear- and fold-hosted orogenic deposits, single examples of which can exceed a million ounces.

Prolonged tropical weathering has produced laterite and saprolite profiles up to 100 m deep. The soft rock mines and mills at low cost — a structural advantage that carries through any future development.

De-risking asset · acquired — Illustrative. Full-coverage LiDAR over Sela Creek strips the rainforest canopy to a bare-earth surface, resolving the structural fabric — shears, faults and lineaments — that controls orogenic gold and guides every collar. Hillshade shown is an illustrative render, not the survey deliverable.
The neighbourhood

The belt produces at scale.

Two large-cap gold mines operate within the same Guiana Shield greenstone belt as Miata's ground. Their reserves frame what the system can host.

!Not comparable: drill intercept vs mineral reserve. The figures above are operator-reported mineral reserves (a grade over a defined, classified tonnage). Miata's best result to date — 96 m @ 1.41 g/t Au at Big Berg — is a single drill intercept over one core length, not a reserve, resource or average grade. The two cannot be read as equivalent.

Jurisdiction

Suriname, framed for diligence.

A balanced view of the operating environment — the strengths that drew us, and the factors any institutional checklist should weigh.

01

Mining law & fiscal regime

Suriname operates a mineral-agreement framework under its Mining Decree; large mines run under negotiated fiscal terms. Smaller-scale exploration and exploitation rights are granted by concession.

02

Permitting status

Sela Creek holds an exploitation licence (renewed 2025) supporting the current drill program; Nassau is held at the exploration/concession stage.

03

Operating majors

Newmont (Merian) and Zijin Mining, via IAMGOLD's former Rosebel mine, operate large producing gold mines in-country — evidence that majors can permit, build and run mines in Suriname.

04

Infrastructure & access — candidly

Projects sit in interior rainforest with limited road, grid and port access; resupply is by river, air and seasonal tracks, and the wet season constrains field months. This raises logistics cost and is a genuine factor to underwrite.

05

Currency & macro

The Surinamese dollar (SRD) has seen material devaluation; Miata raises and reports in Canadian dollars, but in-country costs and labour carry currency and inflation exposure.

06

Stakeholders & social licence

Miata signed an MOU with the Okanisi People (May 2026) and partners with Suriname's largest drilling company — early steps toward the community and operational relationships interior projects depend on.

Why it works

The conditions for a discovery, aligned.

01

Uncharted territory

Mined artisanally for decades, yet barely tested in bedrock by systematic, modern exploration.

02

Industry-leading neighbours

Newmont's Merian and Zijin's Rosebel mines operate within the same belt — proof the system produces at scale.

03

Low-cost setting

Deep saprolite, skilled local labour, efficient labs and competitive drilling costs in a pro-mining jurisdiction.

04

Artisanal as a vector

A century of hand-mining maps the gold for us — every working is a clue to where bedrock mineralization sits.

How we explore

Disciplined, drill-led, independently checked.

We work each target from surface sampling and auger through trenching to diamond drilling, building a 3D picture of the system hole by hole. Cautionary statements & forward-looking information

No current mineral resource or reserve. Miata Metals has no current NI 43-101 mineral resource or reserve estimate on its projects; the company is at the exploration stage.

Grab and surface samples. Grab and selective surface samples are by nature selective and are not necessarily representative of the mineralization on the property.

Nearby deposits. Mineralization on adjacent or nearby properties (including Newmont's Merian and Zijin's Rosebel) is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on Miata's projects.

This page contains forward-looking statements regarding exploration plans, drilling, permitting and jurisdiction, which involve risks and uncertainties that may cause actual results to differ materially.
